Overview

Established more than 30 years ago, Gibbs Care Center is a 66-bed skilled care facility with a 26-unit assisted living facility located in Steelville, Missouri, about one hour from St. Louis.

In 2004, the facility’s dissatisfaction with their liability insurance company’s total lack of communication led them to become a member of Midwest Provider Insurance Company (MPIC).

Situation

The administration of Gibbs Care Center believes regular and frequent communications are a must to control risk and claims costs. Unfortunately, this was not something the Center experienced prior to becoming an MPIC member. The lack of communication manifested itself most in an area of extreme importance: resident claims. In one instance, a claim was filed against Gibbs Care Center, and the insurer did not even make the facility aware of the claim until it was settled. It was then that Gibbs Care Center turned to MPIC.

Result

Since becoming a member of MPIC, Gibbs Care Center has enjoyed a much stronger partnership; the administration counts on MPIC as an important resource for the facility’s operation and risk management. They find the regular and expert assistance on day-to-day issues that both MPIC and IPIC offer to be very valuable. They feel much more informed of the status of serious matters in their facility due to timely and ongoing communication with MPIC.
