Overview
Since 1996, Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been a leader in the long-term care industry. Located in a town of 8,000 near St. Louis, Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a 101-bed facility, and it has been a member of Midwest Provider Insurance Company (MPIC) since the program began.
The facility was one of the first MPIC members to take advantage of RiskWatch®, a software program provided free of charge by MPIC to all members. MPIC is the only insurer in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana that provides its members with this valuable tool for accident investigation. Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center benefited from the program right away.
Situation
Although Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is not fully computerized for all aspects of its operation, they quickly became familiar with the RiskWatch® software.
The trainers walked the administrative team through every step needed for their incident/accident investigations. By following the step-by-step instruction, a detailed investigation is completed for each incident, focusing on applicable elements rather than extraneous information.
Shortly after installation of the software, the State of Illinois came in to do the facility’s annual certification survey and asked for incident and accident investigations.
They were particularly interested in the protocol for investigating bruises of unknown origins.
Result
After Terrie Weible, the Administrator, shared the RiskWatch® documentation regarding incidents, the state was satisfied and completed their review with no further questions. The Administrator felt RiskWatch® allowed the facility to provide the state with not only the required documentation but also enabled them to provide the state with pertinent details of every incident. The RiskWatch® software, provided free of charge by MPIC, aided the facility through the incident and accident investigation survey process and no violations were cited.
